Who We Are!

Inyathelo Eco Solutions is a social enterprise designing circular food systems that restore value to farmers, reduce waste, and build resilient local economies.

We focus on one core challenge:

Food systems in Zimbabwe produce enough but lose value before it reaches the plate.

Our work redesigns how food is grown, handled, and sold-so that value is retained within the system, not extracted from it.

The Problem

Across Sub-Saharan Africa, agriculture is not failing because of production, but because of system design.

Up to 37% of fresh produce is lost after harvest, often before it reaches the market.
Farmers carry the highest risk but earn the least.
Production is disconnected from demand.
Middlemen capture most of the value.
Climate shocks force farmers into distress sales.

The result:
Food is wasted, incomes remain low, and the system rewards those furthest from production.

Our Approach: Circular Food Systems

We design circular food systems that close the gaps between production, markets, and waste.

A circular system does three things
Reduces losses
Retains value locally
Regenerates natural resources

Our model is built on three interconnected pillars:

1. Agroecology

Restoring the foundation of production

We promote farming systems that work with nature, not against it.

This includes:

  • Organic and low-input farming practices
  • Reduced reliance on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides
  • Composting and soil regeneration
  • Crop diversification and water-efficient methods

Outcome:
Healthier soils, lower input costs, and more resilient farms.

2. Food Waste Management

Turning loss into value

A significant portion of food is lost due to poor storage, handling, and coordination.

We address this by:

  • Improving post-harvest handling systems
  • Introducing cold storage and aggregation models
  • Recovering unsold but edible produce
  • Converting organic waste into compost and animal feed

Outcome:
Less waste, lower emissions, and more food reaching people instead of landfills.

3. Market Linkages

Ensuring farmers capture value

Farmers often produce without secure markets, forcing them to sell at low prices or creating a glut in the market, which leads to food losses.

We change this by:

  • Linking farmers directly to buyers
  • Supporting aggregation and coordinated supply
  • Aligning production with real market demand
  • Strengthening local food networks

Outcome:
Better prices, reduced losses, and stronger farmer incomes.

How It Comes Together

These three pillars are not separate-they are designed to function as one system:

  • Agroecology reduces input costs and improves productivity
  • Food waste systems prevent loss and recover value
  • Market linkages ensure that what is produced is sold profitably

Together, they create a circular flow of value, where nothing is wasted, and farmers are at the centre.

Our Mission
To design and scale circular food systems that integrate agroecology, food waste recovery, and market access, ensuring farmers retain value and food systems become more resilient.
Our Vision
  • Agroecology reduces input costs and improves productivity
  • Food waste systems prevent loss and recover value
  • Market linkages ensure that what is produced is sold profitably
